Dear Friends,

It has been three years since our book Gratitude Works: Open Your Heart to Love was first published. Eileen and I are ecstatic about fulfilling our mission of “touching lives with the spirit of gratitude.” Marketing our book has been a huge challenge, but more than that, it has led us to helping women prisoners view their world with new eyes of gratitude. To date we have had the privilege of touching the lives of more than 500 women who are currently in the Plane State Jail in Dayton, Texas. The comments we’ve received from them have overjoyed us, and we would like to share them with you.

“I can already tell you that not only will I enjoy it, it will help me with my gratitude. See in this place (prison) most would think ‘what is it that I have to be grateful for?’ I sometimes sink into that as well. With your gracious gift, it will remind me of all the things I really have to be thankful for. It could always be worse, right? So, once again, thank you for taking time for me.”

“Oh my goodness! Your book is awesome! It has had such a positive impact on me and to think I’ve only had the book in my possession for less than 3 hours and I’ve read half of it and shared it with others in my dorm.”

“I know it will help me get through my time here and build a foundation of strength for when I get home.”

"I have read it every day since receiving it.  It has really been a blessing.  Being in a place like where I'm at, makes it hard to find things that you're grateful for, or even think about the little things out in the free world that we would normally take for granted much less be grateful for them.  Thank you for helping to open my eyes for the things I should be grateful for."

“I really truly enjoy the book; it has so much meaning to life and love itself, it surely does open your heart to love.”

“May God bless you ten-fold for caring enough about prisoners like myself to want to make a difference in our lives the way you and your book has in mine.”

Mother Teresa of Calcutta used to say that the world is hungry for our help and our love.
Requests for our book come in daily.

“Your book keeps me from being down and it helps me to understand that just because I’m incarcerated I still have something to be thankful for. So thank you so very much for that. I’ve been sharing this book with one of my bunkies and she has changed tremendously. She used to walk around with her head down looking sad and now since she has been reading Gratitude Works she’s a different person. So could you all send her a copy as well?”

“I feel your book would do wonders to lift my self-esteem and help me realize I am worthy of a lot.”

“I am changing my life and I would like to receive a copy of your book Gratitude Works to help me on my way.”

“I looked it over and found it to be very inspirational to me. I would appreciate it deeply if you could send me a copy of your book to help me through this very difficult time in my life. I am an educated woman that took a “wrong turn” along the road of life.”

“My teacher in parenting class has a copy and I really enjoyed reading it.”

“We use your book as part of our daily study. We use it as part of our recovery Bible studies.”

“My morning devotional time will never be the same.”

“Your book just brings everything back to perspective.”

“It makes me have a positive attitude with others since I’ve been reading it.”

“It hits the heart so many different ways on so many different days.”

"Someone turned me on to "Gratitude Works"--I've never seen anything quite like it!  I've fallen in love with it."

“I am writing this request to ask for the touching lives with spirit of gratitude because I saw it on a buddy’s bed and it touched m heart. Please mail my heart one."

“It has been a true inspiration in my daily living. Thank God for people like you all who love unconditionally.”

"Let me begin by saying that it is so beautiful, so inspiring, so real to truth.  It's a wonderful feeling to know that someone in this world takes the time out to do the things that you have done for women such as ourselves.  I would like to say thank you and how much you've made a difference in touching of lives, our hearts and feelings, our thoughts!"

I could go on and on, but now is the time for the true purpose of this letter.

At one time or another we have all made a mistake and we have all been prisoners of our thoughts. Won’t you take the time out now to send a check for $30.00 to help us continue with our work? Together we can make a difference. One person and one gratitude at a time can help raise consciousness in a way that will benefit us all. A LESSON FROM A PEBBLE

Drop a pebble in the water and with just a splash it is gone;
But there’s half-a-hundred ripples circling on and on and on,
Spreading, spreading from the center, flowing on out to the sea.
And there is no way of telling where the end is going to be.

Drop a word of cheer and kindness and in just a flash it is gone;
But there’s half-a-hundred ripples circling on and on and on,
Bearing hope and joy and comfort on each splashing, dashing wave
Till you wouldn’t believe the volume of the one kind word you gave.

Drop a word of cheer and kindness and in a minute you forget;
But there’s a gladness still a-swelling, and there’s joy circling yet,
And you’ve rolled a wave of comfort whose sweet music can be heard
Over miles and miles of water just by dropping one kind word.
